Razer Goliathus Speed Fragged Gaming Pad Review

Introduction

It wasn’t long ago that all mouse mats were boring afterthoughts you received and never spent much time thinking about. For the past 5 years there have been some companies looking to change this and have made great in roads into the design and production of products that would catch your eye and attention.

Having never actually bought a mouse mat in nearly 20 years of using a PC, I have never had the need to choose a mouse mat and was unprepared for the large selection available. It was about time as I had been without a mat for around a year and my desk was causing my gaming mouse cursor to jump around on the screen, not healthy in Battlefield or for my sanity.

I would consider myself a serious gamer, over 160 games on Steam, all the Battlefield series on Origin and several others besides. As you would imagine I would already have something that assists owning and fragging! I didn’t but now it’s remedied.

Engineered to exceed the exacting demands of the world’s top professional gamers, the highly-adaptable Razer Goliathus™ Fragged Speed Edition successfully melds the full-scale speed, acceleration and razor-sharp responsiveness of hard mats with the precise control and comfort offered by uncoated soft pads. Boasting an improved iteration of Razer’s award-winning woven fibre technology, every inch of the Razer Goliathus Fragged Speed Edition’s durable surface is a glide-versus-resistance sweet spot, making it suitable for all mouse sensitivity setups and playstyles.

  • Slick, taut weave for speedy mouse movements
  • Pixel-precise targeting and tracking
  • Optimized for all mouse sensitivities and sensors
  • Highly portable cloth-based design
  • Anti-fraying stitched frame
  • Anti-slip rubber base
  • Available in four different sizes: small, medium, large, extended
  • Thickness of all Goliathus Mats is 3mm / 0.12″

Approximate dimensions: Small 215mm x 270mm / 8.46″ x 10.63″, Medium 254mm x 355mm / 10″ x 13.98″. Large 355mm x 444mm / 13.98″ x 17.48″ and Extended Width x Length 294mm x 920mm / 11.57″ x 36.22

Now the eagled eyed among you may notice the title should be Razer Goliathus Alpha Control Fragged Gaming Surface, but the box differs. It says Razer Goliathus Speed Fragged Gaming Pad but it’s different on the Razer website stock images. The code is also the Alpha Gaming Surface, and that pretty much nails it on the head. Looks like I have a newer box and an initial release version, or just the wrong mat, right box, wrong code.

I would imagine by now you will receive the correct box and mat if you part with your money for this product. Razer, feel free to correct me, it is only a little confusing and not really a big deal.

Packaging

The Razer Goliathus Speed Fragged Gaming Pad comes surprisingly rolled in a long box. There is a viewing and touching hole in the side of the box and it’s all very nicely themed in Razer’s green and black gaming colour scheme. I wasn’t expecting it like this but it is no great shakes as I had no idea of how this would be presented.

I opted for the medium or mid-sized as stated on the box which is 254mm x 355mm. On the box are some testimonials for the Speed and Control editions from some noted gamers, so it’s really aiming high at the gamer community, something we all expect from Razer.

There isn’t too much to say about gaming mats, or surfaces/pads as they are now called. There is a lot to say about the philosophy in the Razer Goliathus Speed Fragged Gaming Pad despite its slightly confusing product codes and imagery.
