Moving on to the memory, it is 2 sticks of normal height memory. It is not low profile but it’s not the type with heat spreaders/heat sinks that rise above the height of the DIMMs. They fit nicely into the slots next to the Noctua NH-L12 Low Profile Cooler.
The Blu-Ray Optical Drive (BH10LS30) is also installed at this point and I will throw in the SanDisk SATA III 128GB SSD’s also which will initially sit on the on board RAID controller for the purposes of testing. It is still not clear to me if they can sit on the RAID card once installed.
So, installed so far,
- MSI Z87M-G43
- 16 GB Corsair DDR3 Desktop PC3-12800
- Noctua NH-L12 Low Profile Cooler
- Intel Core i3 4130, S1150, Haswell
- Cooler Master Silencio RC-550 Mid Tower
- 500W be quiet! Straight Power
- Blu-Ray Optical Drive (BH10LS30)
- 2 x 120 GB SSDs OS (SanDisk SSD SATA III 128GB)
- 2x 1Tb HDD’s to test
With the Server up and running its quiet, fast and easy to use. The SSD’s seem to be an excellent choice and with no moving parts, they will not be adding to any vibration or sound coming from the Server. The test HDDs are running with a case fan pushing air over them, and the positions seem ideal to keep the six planned HDDs nice and happy.
Finishing off for now, the next part will be around final Operating System, RAID Card, Hard Disk Drives and final set up. Coming very soon….
