Introduction
We have had a couple of unusual components at Hardwareslave but this one takes first place for unique. The Inkubus 300µ, a handmade, wooden mITX chassis designed to be the finishing touch in a high-end AV room, digital living room or even a sleek modern office environment, is not normally a chassis you can buy. Inkubus sent us over the Inkubus 300µ chassis without their build components to see what we thought and to feedback.
First things first, special thanks to the guys over at Inkubus, they put a lot of effort into sending Hardwareslave this chassis for review, it is appreciated, secondly, you cannot buy this yet. Inkubus are a small but growing company who handmake a very specific and high product, expect to see this in 2017. This isn’t for someone who wants a small media server in the corner of their room, this is for the end user who has everything, and wants something to stand out in their AV and media set up. You may even be an office manager who wants something a little different for the office reception so visitors will be impressed. This is reflected in the price, check out their website for more details and you’ll see what we mean.
The Inkubus 300µ takes four 2.5” drives, so with 2Tb SSDs on the market now, you could have a very high end and fast media server. It will take AMD and Intel motherboards, but they need to be mITX form factor and you’ll need a small PSU, namely an SFX form factor PSU.
All this means you’re not going to have any real graphics capability for serious gamers, but again, this product is aimed at a different market. If you are in the market for something that no one else has and will demand some serious kudos and attention, read on.

The Inkubus 300µ is small and the packaging is just as streamlined. The Inkubus 300µ is fixed in place with cardboard and doesn’t move around in the box, there is also the usual outer strong brown cardboard box for transit. All in, we had no issues with the packaging, it will protect the system well and with the small size of the unit and square shape, you won’t find loose components or breakages under normal circumstances.

The Inkubus 300µ is a range of handmade systems at the high end of the market, why would we review the chassis? Well, Inkubus have stated there will be an opportunity for international customers to purchase the chassis alone on a special occasion, probably in early 2017. You may be able to get your hands on one, but you need to keep track of it and due to their handmade nature, we cannot imagine they will be mass produced, so it's going to be rare and sought after.
