Test Build
We didn’t include an optical drive as we don’t really use them any more. We had no fit issues at all, however, we had a few cable length issues with the PSU, but only just. A lot of chassis this size are on the limit for the CPU power cable, the Aero 1000 was no different. It still reached without any cable tension, but careful routing has to be considered.
- Processor: Intel i7-5930K
- Motherboard: MSI X99A GAMING 7
- Graphics: XFX Radeon R9 Fury X
- Memory: 32GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4
- Drives: 2 x 256 GB SSDs OS (Samsung 840 Pro)
- PSU: Corsair HX1000
- Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler
Let’s have a look at the build;
We used an air cooler so we could represent the CPU area more visually. The colours do not match but that’s easy to sort if you really feel passionate about it, or just use NZXT’s AIO range, like the NZXT Kraken X61 AIO CPU Cooler which can match most colour schemes using the CAM software.
We think it looks great, with the presentation drawn to the main focus area, all your nice high end kit. We had a lot of challenges however, something we did not expect but are well within the realms of the usual system builders skill set, we will go in to that later.
On the cable side everything is good and bad. NZXT provide cable ties and enough eyelets to cable manage perfectly, but you need a strategy. We removed the HDD trays to allow the mounting of the Fury X as a demonstration, and we didn’t use any 3.5 inch drives in our build.
We didn’t over do the cable tidy, this is a rough tidy and it does the job well, with the front I/O cables provide enough length for most motherboards.
From the inside you can see be basically stuff the front I/O cables through one of the many openings, something we needed to do when test fitting a 360mm radiator in the front. So to a word of caution, the front may hold three 120mm fans, but if the header of the radiator is large, it will not fit without removing or compressing the front I/O cables.
NZXT H440 Mid-Tower Chassis Review
Package - 9
Features - 9.5
Build - 8.5
Component Compatibility - 8
Consumer Experience - 8
8.6
This is probably a bit of a Marmite chassis, if you plan big it may just put you in your place with niggling little fitment issues, but install a Fury X and an AIO, and nothing can touch it. Your best SSD's will be on show as well, this could be a superb LAN party chassis but if you get it right, it will be the showcase of your bedroom. Recommended.
