Noctua do an amazing job of the presentation. A humble low-profile CPU cooler, still it’s presented like first prize! With two versions available, Intel and AMD, this allows less fittings supplied in each box. The Noctua NH-L9i only requires four screws to mount, no back plate or special metal harness.

The profile of the Noctua NH-L9i is as simple as you can get, low, square and with no overhangs. The fan has rubber mounts, so there is good isolation between the fan and the heatsink.

Simple is good, a very un-fussy approach to low-profile from Noctua. It’s also only 420g in weight, including the fan which is a 92mm NF-A9x14 PWM fan.

Ok, so putting a dedicated mITX low-profile CPU cooler up against a serious desktop processor is a little out of context, but we managed to squeeze the Noctua NH-L9i L-Type Low-Profile CPU cooler into this window of performance, just. What does this mean? Well, you have your CPU limit for this CPU cooler, any further and you are in real thermal trouble. Any less of a CPU thermal design power (TDP) implementation, and you've got a great cooler.
