Reeven Steropes RC-1206b CPU Cooler Review

Overclocking results next, and we push the Intel i7-6700K by 400Mhz to 4.4Ghz overall, this should push the Steropes. Low profile coolers are usually uncomfortable with overclocking, so let’s have a look at the results.

However, overclocking temperatures are excellent, it is only performing slightly over the stock results which surprised us. We re-ran the tests to validate and they are correct, meaning the Reeven Steropes RC-1206b has excellent thermal management properties, whether you consider this as a low profile cooler or not.

The sound performance is just as good, this time it is slightly quieter than the Antarctica. A point to note, it looks like the Steropes is locked at the same fan speed as the stock runs, even though we have set up the FAN-tastic BIOS for the PWM default.

It is a case for some BIOS tweaking and no doubt an improved sound performance at the expense of some heat performance. A low profile cooler is more about quietness in a HTPC, but if this is going in a server, it’s probably not going to make a difference.

Conclusion

Well, we were pleasantly surprised by the Reeven Steropes RC-1206b, it’s a well-built and thought out cooler that exceeded our expectations for performance. We had no issues installing it, and if you don’t mind yellow, it’s a good looking little cooler.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cooler, and in fact in HTPC, server or normal builds. If you have a small chassis, the Thermaltake Core V1 mITX chassis for example, this is going to be a perfect partner and coupled with the Intel i7-6700K, it shouldn’t give you too many headaches, if any at all.
