The Scythe Mugen 5 does redeem itself in the sound performance chart. Despite its middle of the road thermal performance, the sound output is much more respectable. Anything that gets close to a Noctua NH-D15 cooler for sound output is very good in our opinion.
Not only that, but you need to consider, the Scythe Mugen 5 is a single fan cooler, whereas the Noctua NH-D15 cooler is a dual fan CPU cooler. The Noctua NH-D15 also uses the NF-A15 fan, which is 140mm in diameter, so in comparison, the Scythe Mugen 5 sound performance result is very good going.

It's no surprise that we like the Scythe Mugen 5 SCMG-5000 CPU Cooler, we like Scythe in general. The Mugen 5 is a very capable cooler, especially in overclocked conditions, and enthusiasts dream. It's also very quiet, and well put together. If you want to add more cooling, you can add a second fan and try for better overclocks. With that said, you can easily go the other way if you want some very quiet and good cooling.
