Scythe Mugen MAX CPU Cooler Review

With five heat pipes per side this should provide good heat transition away from the base plate. Also, with the fan installed, there is enough room for your average low profile RAM.

The base protector is a think sheet of very malleable clear plastic. No glue/gum or sticky stuff appears to have been used, leaving a clean and prepared surface.

The base is ultra shiny, we have not seen a base this shiny in a while. It is not about the looks, but this almost mirror smooth surface will transmit heat more efficiently than a poorly finished surface. Rub some thermal paste into the surface, it’s a little old school but it always does the trick for us.

The fan installed, it looks nice, the fan is a good match and it’s balanced. Next, test set up and results.

Scythe are a brand with a large following and we can see why. Though the packaging of this cooler is a little on the budget side, the performance is excellent. It is very close to the Dark Rock Pro 3 and currently at £41.00 on the UK Amazon site, it is almost half the price, how can you argue with that? Well there are a few downsides, the packaging is a bit dated, or cheap, depending on your viewpoint, there is only one fan included and it has the smallest portion of thermal paste you have ever seen.
