As always, Battlefield 4 first.
Not the strongest results but we do play this a lot and don’t think there is an issue here. There are a lot of factors that can impact performance, and the fact the faster CPU is generally slower, points to server load, map differences and so on.
Also, this is still an Ultra settings test, so not too bad and no real difference between the CPUs.
We set all the settings to medium for Crysis 3 and got some impressive results. Both CPU’s flew through this test with 150FPS as the minimum. Again, we can’t see much between these processors in terms of pace and performance.
Conclusion
As we said at the beginning, Skylake is now here and the time is right to think about upgrading.You need to spare a thought for these power houses and if you are going to spend your money, which one? This is a simple one, unless you are going to use more than one graphics card, you need to buy the i7-5820K. As you can see from the test results, it’s only a very small margin away from the i7-5930K in single card configurations.
Why is this the better CPU? Well, it’s over 50% cheaper than the i7-5930K, which from our point of view is a slight overclock away in reality. That said, if you want 40 lanes of PCIe bandwidth, the i7-5930K is the CPU for you, but you are going to really need them and use equipment and applications that will utilise the extra lanes, because that’s the only real difference between these processors. We are just in discussions with some suppliers on the Skylake CPU’s, so we will have some to test and compare, but right now if you want a power house, i7-5820K is the CPU for you.
