The card despite looking very familiar is rather nice. The back plate is designed and finished well, a nice touch and reminds us of the R9 Fury cards which had a back-plate extended to cover the rear of the heatsink. Effectively doubling the length of the card from the Fury X.
Even though this is one of the better reference cooler designs we are not big fans of it. In the flesh it’s really classy, but we have always felt that the reference, or now the Founders Edition, should be the a little less boring. We will just need to get our hands on a non-Founders Edition GTX 1080 to understand if the reference cooler actually does the job effectively.
With that said, we need to eat our words when it comes to the bottom of the card, this would look good on any card, reference or not, it almost silhouettes a bat! On the outputs front, we have three DisplayPorts 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b, and a DVI connector. HDMI 2.0b is an important step for graphics cards. It supports transmission of High Dynamic Range (HDR) video amongst other things. More on the HDMI standards here.
EVGA Nvidia GTX 1080 Founders Edition Graphics Card Review
Package and Bundle - 8
Performance - 9.5
Price - 8.5
Consumer Experience - 9.5
8.9
Nvidia may have dropped the ball a little with the release drivers, and the subsequent drivers that game to fix the issues, but there's no doubt, the Nvidia GTX 1080 Founders Edition is a stellar performance, and the VGA GTX 1080 Founders Edition exercises the GPU core perfectly.
