Gaming next, and Battlefield 4 up first. Battlefield 4 has a matured graphics engine and it is not really phased by any drivers or graphics cards, it should maximize your hardware and set you up for lots of online killing!

Battlefield 4 is also our “go to” game including some 4K UHD pleasure. It’s stood out in the past few years as an excellent gaming engine with a capability to maintain performance through the resolution ranks, but how does the Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 480 8Gb get on?

It’s a tale of two viewpoints. The FPS is very good, you’ll never notice any frame rate issue, however the relative performance is not very good. This is the DirectX 11 test, we do not test with Mantel, though with the advent of Vulkan, we probably will at some point. In the meantime, you’ll enjoy gameplay, you just won’t be winning any FPS prizes.

AMD are excellent at aggressive price campaigns in general and against Nvidia, and the RX 480 is no different. It is cheaper than the R9 390X when it launched by some margin. The question remains as it did when we reviewed the XFX Radeon R9 390X 8GB DD Black Edition, should you upgrade. The answer this time is yes, for the price point, the modern revisions including FinFET 14 process technology, it’s got potential, features and value. The Nvidia GTX 1080 is just over twice the price, the RX 480 isn’t always half as fast.
