Now on to the second of our recent game benchmark additions The Division. We didn’t have all samples for these tests but as promised in our earlier reviews, we are going to start adding in more modern games whether we have sent back reviews samples or not. This may mean your card, or a card you intend to buy isn’t included, but this will blend out over time.

The Division GPU - Reference 27072016 | amCharts

We are back down to earth with results for The Division with performance around the XFX R9 390X DD again. Not what we would expect from a new generation of GPU, but with the results in this review, it’s about right for the Sapphire RX 480 8Gb. A point to note however, we used less power, one less PSU connection to get these results and had the pleasure of HDMI 2.0, so 60Hz refresh rate without using DisplayPorts, worth a mention for all the results.

AMD are excellent at aggressive price campaigns in general and against Nvidia, and the RX 480 is no different. It is cheaper than the R9 390X when it launched by some margin. The question remains as it did when we reviewed the XFX Radeon R9 390X 8GB DD Black Edition, should you upgrade. The answer this time is yes, for the price point, the modern revisions including FinFET 14 process technology, it’s got potential, features and value. The Nvidia GTX 1080 is just over twice the price, the RX 480 isn’t always half as fast.
