Spot the difference, the RX 480 manages to perform on par with the XFX R9 390X DD graphics card and only a small amount ahead of the GTX 970 on test.

We will run through the 1080p set of games in the same way, just in UHD resolutions. We have some true 4K results for some of our older reviews, these will not be included. The extra resolution hike will cause enough of a performance hit on the overall score. First, Battlefield 4, or as we like to call it, BF4K!

The RX 480 is basically tied in performance with to the XFX R9 390X DD graphics card. We didn’t manage to have a smooth gaming experience with Battlefield 4 in 4K UHD and had significant lag and slow down, not nice at all. A point to note, we reducd the resolution down to the 2K UHD mark and the game ran smoothly and looked superb, it just can’t manage 4K UHD.

AMD are excellent at aggressive price campaigns in general and against Nvidia, and the RX 480 is no different. It is cheaper than the R9 390X when it launched by some margin. The question remains as it did when we reviewed the XFX Radeon R9 390X 8GB DD Black Edition, should you upgrade. The answer this time is yes, for the price point, the modern revisions including FinFET 14 process technology, it’s got potential, features and value. The Nvidia GTX 1080 is just over twice the price, the RX 480 isn’t always half as fast.
