Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X OC Graphics Card Review

Crysis 3 4K results next, and all four cards are pushed to their limits. The Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury holding its own against its big brother and the GTX980 Ti. Interestingly, the R9 390X is also there, generally in a very close fourth place.

A solid and close third place for the Sapphire, though it’s less playable that BF4K.

Far Cry 3 4K is a little better than Crysis 3, and the Sapphire performs just as well as in other tests. A predictable third place and is playable. All the top end cards generally in the 25 – 30 FPS range for most of the experience.

Conclusion

We were hoping the Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X OC would save the ATI/AMD reputation and it basically does. A predictable and traditional cooling solution and a minimal specification trim from the Fury X helps the Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury hold it’s own in most scenarios. The Fury will bounce between second and third place in most tests, great for a range of cards £100 cheaper than the flagship model. Currently around £440 it is an excellent flagship alternative.

In our opinion, this was the card Nvidia were worried about, with price drops of their GTX980 Ti between the Fury and Fury X launches, they did react to the latest AMD offering.

The Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X OC is that sweet price point performance, that lets you know you have the best performing graphics your money can buy, that’s still gong to give the flagship models a run for their money.

Recommended

The Sapphire Fury is helped along by a minimal overclock, and a superb cooler. The Tri-X models are always received well, and should provide a lot more head room for overclocking without the need for watercooling.

Finally, the  Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Tri-X OC is something the Fury X is not, and that’s – available to buy right now. The GTX 980 does have the slight advantage in most results, but the Fury should be on everyone’s shopping list based on the price to performance ratio. With Christmas on its way, and impending price wars, this is looking like the buyers choice, especially with AMD reputation for lower price point cards thank Nvidia.
