Zotac GTX 980 Ti AMP! Edition Graphics Card Review

We have some 4K UHD test results now starting with some synthetic benchmark results. These are either native UHD benchmarks, such as 3D Mark’s own 4K ready test or a generic test run at UHD resolutions. By UHD we really mean 3840 x 2160 rather than 4096 x 2160 which is true 4K.

We ran our early 4K tests in 4096 x 2160 but moved to the more standard UHD a while back, and ran our 4K UHD tests again. copy of 3D Mark Professional - Reference 4K | amCharts

Futuremarks’ 3DMark Professional also has a VR pre-release test now along side its UHD test, be sure to click the link and have a search on their site. From an UHD 4K ready perspective, all flagship cards basically make it. The Nvidia cards show well here, and the AMD’s bring up a close second place.

The Zotac AMP! Edition performs very much like a reference GTX980 TI however, only the Palit Super Jetstream GTX 980 Ti makes a successful bid for the top spot.

Interestingly, the superb XFX R9 390X DD with 8Gb of GDDR5 VRAM didn’t manage to score highly in the 4K UHD test, somewhere we would have expected it to shine. This is a synthetic test, so it’s all taken with a pinch of salt, but this is Futuremarks UHD testing standard, and they do know what they are doing.

Also, 3DMark is probably one of the most widely used benchmarks for graphics cards, so take it or leave it, this is the standard that everyone will be looking at. This basically makes it the industry synthetic baseline that everyone should probably be chasing.

Our biggest issue with this card is that it's not special enough. Sure a core and memory frequency increase are good as standard and the GTX 980 Ti core is excellent, but we think the only advantage in owning this card over the reference design is cooling, and therefore overclocking. You may get a good overclocking baseline out of this card due to the good cooling solution, and it will help with sound performance, but the Palit Super Jetstream GTX 980 Ti outperforms it on most tests.
