Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2400MHz Memory Review

PCMark 08 up next and a good set of results.  Walking all over the Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 Memory on a Asus Rampage V Extreme Motherboard we are really seeing the output of a mature technology and chipset drivers. The X79 is still newish, but DDR3 has been around for a while and Intel’s Inf drivers utilise them well.

The overclock is showing some improvement, but generally you probably won’t notice much here.

Silk Road Conquest was used for the gaming results in Battlefield 4. We decided to show three maps per game to give an idea of performance on a familiar or possibly favorite map. We stuck to our rules with high ping’s being excluded, and we played three sessions per map.

One or two dips below 100FPS for the stock memory speed of 2400Mhz, not really a bench mark until you see the results of the overclock. A noticeable difference when overclocking just a little. As with our ADIA synthetic tests we see a comfortable increase with not too much effort.

Conclusion

At £239.99 from the Corsair store this end of life technology still has a whopping price tag. No doubt you will find this cheaper as we did for around the £140.00 mark, and there will be some second hand units surfacing when their owners upgrade to DDR4 and the X99.

If you are an AMD owner, this will be a very good option. If you are an mITX owner, this is also a very good option.

It is not cheap but it is very mature and fast. Think of this as the ultimate evolution, it still has its place at the battlefront, and it will give your non X99 build some life for another 12 months. It’s down, but not out.

Final Thoughts

The Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2400 MHz 16Gb Kit surprised us. We were tunnel visioned by DDR4 and didn’t expect some of the results we achieved. It made us think until we realized there is a lot of life left in DDR3 yet, don’t overlook it, at least not until Q3 2015.
