Up close, the ASRock Z270 Pro4 is well laid out. The CPU is not cluttered and with the exception of a few capacitors, gives room for AIO, air and water cooling setups. The DIMM slots are well positioned and towards the edge of the board. There are a couple of M.2 headers, Optane Memory Ready, and that PCI slot to contend with. The heatsinks are not over the top and look good, matching the motherboards colour scheme.
There’s a couple of Ultra M.2 Sockets which are well positioned. One next to the graphics PCIe slot and one at the bottom next to the PCI slot. Both should be easily accessible once in a complete build.
There’s also support for DDR4 3733+(OC) and AMD Quad CrossFireX and CrossFireX. 2 PCIe 3.0 x16, 3 PCIe 3.0 x1, 1 PCI and a M.2 (Key E) supporting a 2230 WiFi/BT module. There is a lot more on this motherboard, it has a lot of useful features out of the box, however, it doesn’t have Nvidia SLI support.

We bought the ASRock Z270 Pro4 for a project before the Z370 CPU upgrade fiasco happened. It's working as planned and it's got a 7700K installed and the owner is very happy. We persevered with the review because it's a good motherboard, and the only element that makes it last generation is the CPU. It's a modern Z270 chipset motherboard with a couple of throwbacks to yesteryears, such as the PCI slot, and a VGA graphics port.
