The Close Ups
If you like SATA, you will like this, and if you like SATA Express, you will like this. The bank of six connectors on the left are SATA Express headers, leaving you with some handy options. The SATA Express is provided by ASUS including the ASMedia SATA Express controller and not part of the X99 chipset.
Below, onboard power on and reboot buttons, very handy. POST display, PCI lanes switch and another PWM fan header.
USB 3.0 front panel header along with the ATX Power plug, M.2 connector, some PWM fan headers and Safe Boot, Mem Check and ReTry buttons. We also have a serious amount of SATA connectivity, including SATA Express at the top right.
The USB BIOS reload is only available from the lower USB 2.0 port. With ten on-board USB ports its got plenty of connectivity. This is provided by the ASMedia USB 3.0 controller, only the USB 2.0 are Intels. The three gold connectors are for the Wi-Fi antenna. Audio is provided by the on-board ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel sound controller.
Look, there’s a gap with nothing on it. This is a seriously packed motherboard.
Asus Rampage V Extreme Motherboard Review
Package - 9.5
Performance - 9
Price - 7
Consumer Experience - 7
8.1
How can an overall score of four get a recommended? The Consumer Experience rating really brought the final mark down, just imagine what this would have been if there had been a little more consumer experience thinking. We haven't tested every aspect or feature of this motherboard, there is so much crammed in it wasn't possible. We stuck to the performance and the main features but you really need read and try to understand the full feature set that comes with this motherboard, it's insane.
