We are not fans of the colour scheme. We are also testing the Gigabyte Z97M-DS3H and it has the very same colour scheme, not our cup of tea at all. We have a selection of BIOS screenshots, but nothing too in depth. We wanted to give an overview of what to expect in the BIOS.
You can switch off the on-board graphics, which is good compared to the Wi-Fi lack of options. We run our rigs in RAID 0 by default and this being a Z97 Chipset, it was easy to set up.
This will make a nice overclocking board, enough BIOS options to make even a seasoned overclocker satisfied. The option to set up your own defaults isn’t new to BIOS, but welcome in the ways it’s presented to the user.
The Gigabyte BIOS offers a high resolution interface and a choice of entry screens. Despite its colour scheme, it’s a very nice BIOS with a good amount of config to be had.
Gigabyte GA-Z97N GAMING-5 Motherboard Review
Package - 8.5
Performance - 9
Price - 9
Consumer Experience - 8.5
8.8
If push came to shove, we would chose the MSI Z97I GAMING AC Motherboard over the Gigabyte GA-Z97N GAMING-5, though mainly down to the BIOS and the FPS performance at times. The Gigabyte GA-Z97N GAMING-5 is currently 113.99 on Amazons UK site which is £25 cheaper than the MSI Z97I GAMING AC Motherboard, another plus point and good value for a top of the line mITX gaming motherboard.
