ExpressVPN Virtual Private Network Router Review

In the box, you get the Linksys WRT1200AC, antenna, power brick and a double sided printed setup from ExpressVPN. This is not marketed as a Linksys router, but instead the platform for the ExpressVPN service and custom VPN firmware.

The Linksys WRT1200AC Router has a few extras round the back, a USB 3.0 port and an eSATA USB port.

Our sample turned up with a US power brick, so we used a plug adapter and it worked just fine. There’s a lot of information on the ExpressVPN website about different types of routers and even using your own router in the same way as the WRT1200AC Router, i.e. flash your old router with ExpressVPN firmware, not bad.

Just like most components that only have a few actual outputs or functions, the ExpressVPN Router and service do everything they are supposed to without any fuss. That’s going to be our main point here, it was truly seamless, and with the choice of a Linksys WRT1200AC router, throughput performance, or Wi-Fi performance was as expected, good for the type of hardware. Between Wi-Fi testing on an iPad 2 Air, our Server and main test system, we had no issues with any aspect of the ExpressVPN service, in fact it enhanced our internet presence.
