The underside is a criss-cross of rubber relief which adheres to a smooth desk very well. We had no slip at all.

Position the XXL well however, the super grippy rubber underside was dificult to make minor adjustments without feeling we would stretch it in some way. It is a problem we don’t really mind having though, a mouse surface that moves usually ends up in the bin.

Conclusion

Usually we comment on mouse surfaces by saying there isn’t much to say. Well, the XTracGear Ripper and the Ripper XXL mouse surfaces are not in that category, they are very smooth and feel highly polished without being shiny. We had instances where a mouse would move across the surface only aided by the cable tension, that’s very smooth!

We tested this back to back with the Boogie Bug Aim B.PAD XL Mouse Mat and although the Aim B.PAD XL is cheaper, it doesn’t have the same quality of finish. It’s not bad, in fact it is very good, but the Ripper series is better. Both Surfaces are a little more expensive than the Boogie Bug Aim B.PAD XL surface, however the baseline performance jump you feel when using these Surfaces is very noticeable, even if some of it is a comfort zone in your head!

We would have preferred some care instructions as we imagine the mat will stain or mark, but other than that it’s a very fast gaming pad with a long future in fraging.

Surfaces don't come with much, so we can't really fault it on that front. Surfaces are a standard format and you could probably make your own. The real difference is in the finer details, which the XTracGear Ripper and Ripper XXL surfaces have an ace up their sleeve, an amazingly fast and smooth gaming surface. At this point in time, we haven't reviewed or used a Surface that surpasses the Ripper and Ripper XXL.
