Test Setup

All synthetic tests are carried out three times with the best result taken. We used the various software’s own test count settings, so, for example, CrystalMarkx64 we ran the test count at nine, but repeated three times.

We use charts to describe the benchmark results. These use colours that can often be similar or even different shades of each colour. If this becomes hard to read, you can click on any of the review samples on the chart to remove it or add it back in.

We use several synthetic benchmarking tools, they are a synthetic reference and can have several factors either included in the test or impact the test. Therefore, we use a static and standard test system. We have dropped IOMeter, a really good test, but we primarily used it for IOPS, which is not something end users are really looking for just now.

Instead, we have replaced it with AS SSD Benchmark and will be running ATTODiskBenchmark in the future.

The firmware on the test sample arrived as M2CR010, with no update available at the time of publication. All BIOS, drivers and patches are updated as of the date of this review. We also retested the BX300 after the recent Intel CPU security patches and used BIOS 2.40 from ASRock.

On to the first of the results, starting with PCMark08 Professional and moving on to AIDA64 Engineer.

It's safe to say the Crucial BX300 is another solid investment from Crucial. SSD's have really come of age, and the third generation of the BX range is more evolution than revolution. There's nothing bad with that at this time, we're only really looking for speed and size, with the former throttled by the SATA bandwidth and the latter on its way slowly, the 480Gb BX300 is as good as you can get just now.
