Also included is a 9.5mm adapter bracket, this gives a couple of milometers extra depth to the 7.5mm MX200.
Inside, after getting past Crucial’s clip together construction, the 500Gb SSD internals are revealed.
Below, it’s a pretty standard SSD layout. The Marvell 88SS9189-BLD2 controller on the bottom right, and the eight 16nm Micron MLC NANDs consume most of the remaining space.
The Marvell 88SS9189-BLD2 controller is shared with the MX100. We reviewed the Crucial MX100 256Gb SSD and recommended it, scoring 4.5/5. Eight chips with four dies per chip make up the 500Gb storage making thirty two Die in total.
This is a one sided SSD, the 1Tb model will have 16nm Micron MLC NANDs on both sides.

The Crucial MX200 500Gb is a sleeper drive, though if you already have a Z170 chipset motherboard, it is awake for you! If you have an older Chipset, and that includes Z97 Chipsets, they have nearly identical performance to the X99 Chipset for storage, the MX200 is an excellent future proofing drive that will allow cheapish large SSD storage, with a future performance unlock!
