Blackmagic Disk Speed tests next and we kept the basics simple. We ran two tests, 1Gb and 5Gb and then ran a further soak test for 30 minutes on the new Jet drive. We have included the screenshots this time, as there is a greater level of relevant information included with the MB/s scores.
First up, the 1Gb legacy Apple SSD with a respectable 953.8 MB/s write and a somewhat lagging, at least by today’s standards, 616.3 MB/s in Read, but that’s really only half the story. If you have a look at the “Will It Work” section, you will also see 10 Bit YUK 4:2:2 2016p30/50 & 60 is not supported, something that the JetDrive 850 960GB NVMe SSD almost extends support to cover.

- DiskSpeedTest 1GB 30 min
The JetDrive 850 960GB NVMe SSD results next, and we have included the best results for a three-run batch of benchmarks and a sustained 30-minute run, and the difference is stunning. Write speeds jump to around 1120MB/s, about a 20% increase in speed. Small but tangible for some power users.
Read speeds, on the other hand, have doubled, providing an excellent uplift over the standard Apple offering, and also providing another power user benefit. 10 Bit YUK 4:2:2 2016p30/50 & 60 is now supported from a speed point of view for all but 10 Bit YUK 4:2:2 2016p60 Write capability.
