Internal Shots
Inside the NC01U we have added the Crucial BX100 500Gb SSD, but nothing else. Our sample arrived with the Intel Core i5-5200U Processor installed already, and 8Gb of DDR3-1600 DDR3 RAM.
Here is the M.2 interface and the 2.5″ 7mm SATA interface. If you have ever serviced a laptop, this will all be familiar, it’s a bit like a folded up laptop without the keyboard and screen.
Crucial memory was included, pairs nicely with the Crucial BX100 500Gb SSD. At the bottom you can see the ports, in this shot the SSD has been removed.
Test Set Up
We used our standard of synthetic tests with the Shuttle NC01U, which included the Microsoft Office suite for the work tests.
- Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5 5200U
- Chipset: Intel Broadwell-U PCH L-P
- Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5500
- Memory: 8GB RAM DDR3 Dual Channel @ 1596 MHz
- Drives: Crucial BX100 500Gb SSD
Synthetic Tests
For some fun, let’s pitch it against the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 we reviewed last year, at least for the Futuremark tests. The Surface Pro 3 is ten times the price, including the keyboard, so let’s see if you get some value for money!

Call us optimistic and positive people but we really liked it. The VESA mounting capability means you can hide this away and have a very clean set up. The Wi-Fi and wired connections allow you to put this anywhere, give or take a couple of situations. The SSD support and the 8Gb RAM coupled with an Intel Broadwell U CPU means as long as you are not gaming or Photo shopping, it’s an excellent office or web micro PC.
