With Intel’s LGA1156 platform gaining popularity, it would appear that high performance for the masses is the goal, attempting to bring performance to the mainstream. The costs are certainly lower than its big brother LGA1366 socket, but there are a few performance differences as well; namely, the dual channel memory in the newer 1156 socket. Link
