ASRock Z170 Extreme4 Motherboard Review

The ASRock Z170 Extreme4 motherboard also boasts Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps for power efficiency and delivery. There’s also an alloy heatsink keeping your MOSFET and chipset cool while fragging.

Unusually the ASRock Z170 Extreme4 has a DVI-D port, along with the more traditional HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2 ports. You also receive  two USB 3.1 (1 Type-C & 1 Type-A) and eight USB 3.0 (two Front, six Rear).

Quarter by Quarter

Here is our usual look at the motherboards layout quarter by quarter. The super alloy is nice, has a sort of matte and anodised feel as most motherboard heatsinks have these days, though a little more course.

The ASRock Z170 Extreme4 also has “Flexible PCIe Slots” meaning there is no physical reason not to install a full length PCIe card in the PCIe Gen3 x1 slots. Logically though, you only get PCIe Gen3 x1 bandwidth.

7.5

We are a little disappointed with the ASRock Z170 Extreme4 motherboard in the performance stakes. The rest of the motherboard is very good for looks, features, presentation and connectivity. We just cannot get past the odd graphics and storage performance.
